Fairview named among 20 top critical access hospitals in U.S.
GREAT BARRINGTON — Fairview Hospital, an affiliate of Berkshire Health Systems, has been named one of the 20 highest-ranked critical access hospitals (CAHs) in the country as determined by the Chartis Center for Rural Health and announced by the National Rural Health Association (NRHA).
Fairview achieved two Top 20 recognition awards, the first for Overall Hospital Performance based on the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX and its eight indices: inpatient market share, outpatient market share, quality outcomes, patient perspective, cost, charge, and finance. The second award was for best practice achievement for Patient Perspective: a rating of hospital performance based on percentile rank across all 10 HCAHPS domains.
The hospital has been invited to an awards ceremony that will be held during NRHA’s Critical Access Hospital Conference in September, in Kansas City, Missouri.
With over 100 rural hospitals closing in the U.S. between 2013 and 2021, according to the Government Accountability Office, the Hospital Strength Index considers the strength and sustainability of rural healthcare by focusing on the patient experience, quality of care, affordability, and financial sustainability. Over the course of the last 12 years, the INDEX has established itself as the industry’s most comprehensive and objective assessment of rural hospital performance.
Dr. Lara Setti honored as 2022 Community Clinician of the Year
GREAT BARRINGTON – Dr. Lara Setti has been selected as the Berkshire District Medical Society’s 2022 Community Clinician of the Year, an award recognizing her professionalism and contributions as a physician. Setti is a board-certified family physician with Community Health Programs (CHP) in Great Barrington, where she has provided care to patient of all ages, from birth to passing, since 2008.
For the past 18 years, she has worked in community health with a particular interest in immigrant health, health care disparities, and collaborative health care models. In her current position, Setti has worked with immigrant communities, serving as the only civil surgeon seeing patients in Berkshire County. Over the past few years, she has developed collaborative relationships with local nonprofits and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health to care for unaccompanied minors and refugees in our rural community.
Setti earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, after which she obtained a master’s degree in public health from Harvard University. She completed her residency in family medicine at Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura, California. She received her undergraduate degree in human development and social relations from Earlham College, where she completed her thesis on environmental racism.
Setti has served as an environmental activist in the rural South, learned Spanish in El Salvador, where she also served as an independent post-war election observer, and practiced medicine in rural clinics in both El Salvador and the Amazonia region of Ecuador. She recently served on the board of directors for BRIDGE and the Medical Advisory Panel of the Berkshire Waldorf School.
SBCC presents panel discussion on health benefits of cannabis
GREAT BARRINGTON — The Southern Berkshire Chamber of Commerce will present a panel discussion on cannabis, Wednesday, June 29 from 5–6:30 p.m. at the Claire Teague Senior Center, 915 S. Main St. in Great Barrington.
If you struggle from things like sore muscles, stress, insomnia or other ailments, this panel of experts will guide you through the benefits of cannabis. It will include an in-depth look at lotions, tinctures, edibles, seltzers, transdermal patches, and topical products.
Panelists will include representatives from Theory Wellness, Calyx Berkshire, and The Pass, along with Barb Tracy MSN, FNP, a family nurse practitioner and certified Cannabis Medical Certification Provider from Berkshire Cannabis Connect.
Kenver to host Summer Kick-off Party
EGREMONT — Kenver will host a Summer Kick-off Party on Saturday, June 18 from 12–5 p.m. at 39 Main Street, South Egremont Village. The outdoor goods store will celebrate the season with free ice cream from a local truck, other food and beverages, and yard games.
Kenver will also offer a 20% discount on some of their brand new summer gear. Cyclists can expect bikes and gear from premium vendors, and campers can look forward to a wide variety of supplies. One of the more unique pieces Kenver will be carrying is The Campo from BE Outfitter, which is a multipurpose hammock, rain poncho, and ground cover rolled into one product.
The store has also recently stocked pickleball apparel and equipment, as well as custom-made canoes from Gull Lake Boat Works. A variety of outdoor wear will also be available, including trail running footwear and other fashion-forward recreational clothing.
