On Friday, July 29, WYTV Channel 33 announced Marybeth Gill a Hometown Hero.

President of the East Liverpool-Calcutta Area Garden Club and longtime resident, Gill led the Umbrella Alley Project. After placing umbrellas in the alley in early June, a wind storm damaged many of the umbrellas. Feeling discouraged, she immediately refocused, bought bigger, stronger umbrellas and started over.

Gill and her husband, Mike, have put a pulley system on the umbrellas and single handedly lower and close the umbrellas whenever stormy weather is predicted. Then, immediately reopen the umbrellas after the storm. Gill supplies fresh flowers for the tables from her personal garden on a regular basis to keep the alley beautiful for the community.
