Despite the downpour of rain Saturday, a couple dozen people put on their ponchos and got moving in North Omaha.

Creighton University's Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health program, or REACH, put on this physical activity day. No stopping, rain or shine.

"I went and bought me a poncho and I was like it's just rain, it's OK, you can dry off," said Athaliah Parker, a North Omaha resident.

REACH has hosted this event for five years now. It is free to the public and there is usually group fitness, basketball and a kids zone.

This all started to help the community in North Omaha see exercise as a fun thing to do. The goal is to reduce health problems in the long run.

"It helps to reduce the onset of disease like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease. It helps to decrease depression," said Dr. Richard Brown, the executive director of the REACH program.

Physical activity can come in many forms. You can do jumping jacks during TV commercials or run in place while you wait for something. Three times a week is a good start, and you have to sweat.

"Just keep moving, just any little bit of thing. It doesn't really matter," Parker said.
