The third season of Netflix's The Umbrella Academy is right around the corner, and it has a lot of questions from the first two seasons to answer.

The third season of The Umbrella Academy is close at hand, and with the release of various promotional photos, fans are eagerly waiting to see what is in store for the titular superhero siblings. The upcoming season also reinvigorates a question among the fan base of both the graphic novels that the series is based on and those who have solely watched the show: Will we ever see the other children born on the same day, and in the same way, as the Hargreeves siblings?

The Umbrella Academy is a superhero fantasy show that features seven adopted siblings who were born in a peculiar manner, namely that their mothers were not pregnant on the day that they gave birth. In the series it is said that this phenomenon happened to 43 women around the world. But Reginald Hargreeves, a reclusive billionaire, could only adopt seven of them and eventually each developed a superpower, which he utilized to make them into The Umbrella Academy. And we never hear more about the remaining 36.

It isn’t until the second season that we learn newcomer Lila actually had her own power that she was hiding from the Hargreeves. At the end of the second season, the Umbrella siblings accidentally end up in an alternate timeline in which Reginald adopted a different set of children except for one who was dead in the siblings’ original timeline. This new group of heroes is called the Sparrow Academy and will be a portion of the main focus for the third season. Altogether, this accounts for 14 for the 43 children born on that fateful day, and while the season is set up to feature the Sparrow Academy siblings, there is still so much that requires explanation.

Within recent promotional character photos, the Umbrella siblings and Lila are seen with suitcases that have stickers on them that some have equated to each sibling’s place of birth, possibly suggesting that Season 3 will involve a road trip in which the siblings find this timeline’s version of themselves. With the fates of our heroes’ alternate selves unknown, this could be a great way to learn about what happened to the super-powered children outside of Reginald Hargreeves’ care.

Through grueling hard work, the children’s adoptive father molded their powers to become as strong as possible. However, without such teachings and experiences, some of the children wouldn’t even know that they had powers unless they were put in very specific situations. But if they did discover their powers in this world, there’s no guarantee they will use it in the same way.

The Umbrella Academy siblings have been through many tough situations in two seasons: fighting off time-traveling assassins, figuring out how to stop the apocalypse, and surviving a dreadful dinner with their father. Throughout it all they’ve learned to harness their powers for the greater good in their own special ways. But now, with the world of The Umbrella Academy opening up, it seems like it is time to learn what happened to kids with superpowers beyond the walls of the singular household.

The Umbrella Academy Season 3 premieres on June 22 on Netflix.
