Topaz Labs has launched its new program Photo AI which combines all of its most popular image tools under one umbrella. The image editing tools automatically detect and fix image quality issues using Artificial Intelligence.

According to the company, Topaz Photo AI will help photographers maximize image quality faster and more accurately than ever before. It does this by pairing its extensively trained AI models and deep learning capabilities with what it calls its Autopilot inspector resulting in improved RAW workflow options.

“Getting a clean, crisp, and high-resolution photo is really important, but the current process of increasing image quality is quite slow and error-prone. To solve this, we’ve built Topaz Photo AI to be an autopilot for image quality. It detects the unique problems in your image and intelligently applies the correct methods to maximize resolution, detail, and clarity,” says Eric Yang, CEO of Topaz Labs.

Up until now, Topaz Labs offered three separate programs for fixing common image issues. It offered DeNoise AI for removing noise, Sharpen AI for deblurring soft-focus images, and Gigapixel AI for upscaling low-resolution images. However, images often had more than one problem that needed addressing, so they combined all of them into one editor that can detect which problems need resolving.

“With Topaz Photo AI, we want to make the entire process of identifying those core image quality issues and applying the most appropriate remedies automatic and transparent. That process is exactly what we set out to build for Topaz Photo AI,” says Partha Acharjee, Topaz Labs Sr. Research Engineer.

With Topaz Photo AI’s Autopilot, the company is taking it a step further by automatically analyzing users’ photos and applying the right models and settings. The company hopes that this will free photographers up to apply the creative edits that make their photos uniquely theirs. “That’s something that no AI model can ever replace,” the company emphasises.

Autopilot works by analysing each image. First, Autopilot detects noise and soft focus issues throughout the entire image. Images may suffer from luminance noise, colour noise, or mixed noise, as well as motion blur or lens blur during capture. The software works out which specific denoise and sharpen models to use, and applies automatic strength settings.

The next step in the process sees Autopilot automatically detecting all faces in the image and distinguishing low-quality faces from high-quality ones. Based on this face detection, Autopilot will automatically apply face enhancement to all detected low-quality faces.

The final step has Autopilot detecting salient objects. Based on the sharpness of the subject, Autopilot may apply sharpening to it, allowing it to be more pronounced against the rest of the image.

Photo AI is designed to fit into a variety of workflows, from RAW or JPEG to Lightroom or Capture One. The company promises that it will operate much more smoothly and with better overall integration than Topaz Lab’s previous apps.

Topaz Photo AI is available today for $199 directly from the company’s website for both Windows and Mac computers. There is currently a $40 discount if you buy before October 7th 2022.
