(KNSI) – Organizers of St. Cloud’s 76th annual 4th of July Fireworks Show are keeping an eye on the sky, with forecasters calling for a shot at rain on Independence Day.

St. Cloud Fireworks Commissioner Tom Richards says they will monitor the weather before the crowds gather.

“We work closely with Stearns County Emergency Management. We actually start our weather conference calls at noon on July 3rd and their predictions are amazingly accurate.”

He says fireworks would only be canceled if the weather is dangerous.

“What folks should understand is we’re not going to have fireworks if there is lightning, or thunder, or strong winds. But we’re going to know that hours in advance. We’re going to be doing updates and if there’s a little bit of rain we’re still going to launch.”

He advises bringing along a poncho in case of rain. The National Weather Service says there is a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms on Monday and Monday night. The annual St. Cloud Fireworks show starts at 10 p.m. Festivities begin around 5 p.m.
