This Friday night, Habersham Central High School will confer diplomas on 453 seniors, and the Habersham Success Academy will graduate 17 during ceremonies at Raider Stadium. Graduation begins at 8 p.m. Those who can’t attend in person may view the ceremony via livestream.

The Habersham County Sheriff’s Office will close the section of Camp Creek Road nearest the high school beginning at 4:45 p.m. and it will remain closed after the ceremony. Parking will be available at the high school and Habersham Ninth Grade Academy. Handicapped parking will be located near the visitor’s side of the stadium on HNGA’s campus. Parking is limited, so, visitors are encouraged to carpool if possible.

Deputies will be controlling the flow of traffic in and out of parking areas before and after the ceremony. See the map below for additional information. (Source: Habersham County Sheriff’s Office)

School administrators say balloons and umbrellas are not allowed in the stadium to ensure that everyone in attendance has a clear view of the graduates. Those attending may want to carry a rain jacket just in case. The stormy weather of the last several days is expected to clear by graduation, says Now Habersham forecaster Tyler Penland. Temperatures will be cool and winds will be from the west at 5 to 15 mph Friday night.

If graduation has to be called off due to the weather, the ceremony will be rescheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, May 28, at Raider Stadium.

HCHS Principal Jonathan Stribling describes the Class of 2022 as a “close-knit group of Raiders” who support one another and celebrate each other’s successes. The class earned more than $2.5 million in post-secondary scholarships.

“The Class of ’22 boasts athletes going on to play at the next level and high academic achievers headed to study and conduct research at some of the nation’s best colleges and universities,” Stribling says. “Other classmates have felt a sense of duty to protect and serve and plan to join the different branches of the United States Military. Still, others will join the workforce contributing to the economic development and well-being of our local community.”

Success Academy Principal Ernie Garrett calls it a “privilege” to have worked with the young adults at his school.

“Many of our students have faced great adversity and have overcome many challenges in achieving this milestone. I am truly proud of their accomplishments and excited by their achievement in earning their diploma and wish them much success in the future,” says Garrett.

Atlanta Attorney Marlan Wilbanks, who graduated from Central in 1979 is scheduled to be this year’s guest speaker. Wilbanks was chosen to receive the 2022 HCHS Lifetime Achievement Award. He is the third person to receive the award since its inception in 2020. Previous recipients include Dr. Stacy Nicholson (Class of ’77) and Dr. Emily Foster Howell (Class of ’96). As he prepares for Friday night’s ceremony, Principal Stribling says he’s also looking beyond graduation.

“I am proud of our seniors and see value and potential in all the members of the 52nd graduating class of Habersham Central High School – the Class of 2022,” he says. “I can’t wait to see what their future holds.”
