GRAND FORKS — Rain is likely on Monday, May 9, in the northern Red River Valley, and the unpleasantness won't be limited to just another shower, according to the region's forecasters.

Look for winds to pick up throughout the day, with gusts potentially reaching 45 mph.

"You're going to want to grab the umbrella or rain jacket or both, because you're going to be using it throughout the morning," WDAY meteorologist Jared Piepenburg said as storms were moving into the southern Red River Valley.

He said the storm front will move northward throughout the morning, followed by strong winds.

The National Weather Service's forecast calls for showers and possibly a thunderstorm in the Greater Grand Forks region before 3 p.m., followed by a chance of showers after 3 p.m.

Rainfall amounts, according to the NWS, could be between a half-inch to three-quarters of an inch.

"Some of the storms could produce heavy rain," according to the NWS forecast, which says the chance of precipitation is 90%.

Tuesday looks to be better, with sunny skies and a high around 65, although winds still could gust to nearly 30 mph.

After that, more rain could be coming. According to the National Weather Service forecast, there is a chance of rain on Wednesday (30% chance), Thursday (70%) and Friday (20%).
