Step under the umbrella tonight and the next few days as rain is in the forecast! Although, use some caution as thunderstorms are also possible.

The showers have been rolling through the area for a large part of the day, especially out towards the western side of the valley. So far about a tenth of an inch to a quarter of an inch has fallen with higher amounts in the coastal mountains, some places already topping one inch of rain! This is the type of rain we want to see. It is not coming all at once, but it is enough to give us all a nice soaking. The main concern is to drive carefully on the roads today as this is the first rainfall of the season, which means things might be a bit slick due to the buildup of chemicals on the roadways. The showers will continue tonight with a chance for a couple rumbles of thunder possible. Temperature wise, most places in the valley will bottom out in the mid to upper 50s.

Tomorrow, the showers will continue with the chance for a few rumbles of thunder mixed in. Temperature wise, it will depend on if the sun can shine. If the sun is able to pop out, highs in those areas could be around 70 degrees, but if the clouds remain dominant and the showers more persistent, then highs will be in the low to mid 60s. Either way, keep the umbrella and raincoat handy as you go about your day. Tuesday and Wednesday will see a slight change in the pattern as the area of low pressure parked off our coast shifts inland. This will increase the chances for thunderstorms by adding a little more bubbliness to the atmosphere. The pattern shift will also increase the amount of sunshine we get, which means highs will have a better chance at topping off in the low 70s each day. When all is said and done, about 1-2 inches of rain will be possible in the valley with higher amounts in the coastal mountains. The highest rain totals in the valley look to be setting up on the northwestern side. The rest of the week and into next weekend is a transition back to normal. Thursday’s highs will be in the low 80s with plenty of sunshine while the weekend will see temperatures returning to the upper 80s to low 90s. In essence a return to average for this time of year.
